Reports about trails we've ridden

North Port, Florida, nearby trail: The CAPE HAZE TRAIL

We found the Cape haze trail on Traillinks.com, It's the rails to trails website, and it's a great resource for people who are looking for a good bike trail.

We prefer bike trails that are reasonably flat, reasonably well maintained, that go through places where one would want to spend time, that has things like fresh air not polluted by motor vehicles, trees or other natural things to view. Asphalt or concrete pavement. Straight or curved doesn't matter. But as it turns out most rails to trails projects end up with straight trails mostly, which is ok.

The main idea is to get fresh air, good exercise that is a good experience and is good for me, and is a pleasant pastime. In Florida in February or January or late December most years, it's pleasant for outside exercise.

The other side of that coin is if you're going to go on this trail, then don't do it in the summer.

First of all, it's FLORIDA, and it's really too hot and humid in the summer to do outside exercise without getting a heatstroke. Also, Apparently the bugs along this trail are really bad in mid summer. Probably be ok from about November to April.

We read comments on this trail, and apparently it was not as nicely paved in the past. But the surface was excellent in February 2014 when we rode it.

It's nearly 16 miles round trip, but it goes really fast. The surface is outstandingly flat and smooth.
