Hike Sycamore Canyon reservoir trail

Our Crazy Post Retirement Wanderings Hiking and Triking

Hike on Sycamore Reservoir (Trail #39)

Sandi and I parked in the trailhead called either "prison camp" or "Gordon hirabayashi recreation site" just up the hill from Molino basin. We only hiked a total of about 2 miles on this date. We took the trail from the parking lot up east from the trailhead, and it starts the climb up to the saddle. We retraced our steps back to the Sycamore trail, and headed west. There is an old jeep trail/ arroyo path that goes gently up hill west to the saddle with not particularly interesting views up until the saddle.

When we reached the saddle, we were able to see up mid- Bear canyon toward Sabino east and west forks as well as the south end of Sycamore canyon ridge. We relaxed there for a few minutes and drank some water and had our lunch and enjoyed the view looking both east and west. We took some pictures, and headed back down the trail to the trailhead. I know that the next time that I attempt this trail I'll go the full length rather than turning around at the saddle. It was a good short hike.
