Hike Agua Caliente Hill trail - part 1
This was the third time I have hiked up Agua Caliente hill trail. .
The elevation of the trail goes from about 2,500 feet up to about 5,300 feet, and so thin air was not a consideration. The trail gains about 3,000 feet, so it makes for a decent workout.
The worst part of the Agua Caliente trail is that it's a knee buster trail. By that what I mean is that there are a very large number of 18 to 30 inch drops on the way down along the trail. It's really hard on the knees.
The air was very hazy on that day, and it wasn't too hot, which is not always the case, since there's no shade on the south side of the mountain on the way up. It can get unbearably hot in late April through September.
Pearl had a good time hiking along the trail, but she was a little tired at the end of 10 miles and 3,000 feet of elevation up and down.
The day that I decided to take on this hike, it was warm but not really hot for this time of the year down in the valley, but up on top it was in the upper 60's with a good breeze, and almost perfect for hiking.
Pearl and I had lunch up on top, and it was good to get some more calories after a hard hike up, but it wasn't really too hard for a ten mile round trip.
This trail is good for most any time that the temperatures don't get too hot, except for the knee buster aspect.
The trail on the southeast side of the Santa Catalina mountains and on a clear day it affords a view of the east and south side of the mountain range, as well as the Rincons west elevation.
