Flower survey around old town, Florence, Oregon - part 2

Old town is the older part of downtown Florence, down by the Siuslaw river port. The town of Florence has grown up around the Siuslaw river, and then later in it's history, when cars became more important to commerce, the town began to grow up around the main highway north and south through town and up and down the coast, U.S. Highway 101.

Oregon State highway 126 that connects Florence to Eugene is also very important to Florence, and provides the main connection with the outside world for supplies and products, but there wasn't much land suitable to build on along higway 126, so it has been less important as far as how the town is oriented, and how it has grown into modern Florence.

Florence is a nice place to ride a bicycle or walk around the town. It's not spread out too much, and most of the businesses are located within a 3 or 4 mile oval.

While we stayed there, we would walk to the grocery store, post office, restaurant, hardware store, coffee shoppe, and it made for a nice walking routine to get in 3 or 4 miles per day, just walking around town.

The town is organized mostly on a north - south / east - west grid, and the blocks are a nice size to walk the dog around the block.

The pacific coast of the United States has just the right combination of rain, sunshine, warmth, and coolness, so that you can grow nearly anything in that climate, especially if you have a greenhouse for those really cold or really hot days, few as they may be.

Consequently, many people plant their yards up with lots of bushes and flowers of every possible variety that one can imagine, and it's a very beautifully planted town, as you can see by the pictures.
